Happy Halloween, everyone!

Thank you for this song. I’ve been looking for it since 1979 (When I was 5)!!!!! Josh
You’re quite welcome, Josh! Glad you enjoyed it!
I agree with Josh, although I’ve only been looking since middle school (2001-2003). Thank god for the Internet!
I love this song!
Melissa
Thanks so much for posting! We sang this song when I was in elementary school and I loved it! I have been trying to find it to teach to my 6 year old daughter. I’m so excited! Thanks!
I’m glad that another generation will have this song to enjoy and pass along to their own kids, too. Thanks for stopping by!
Every year I think of this song (that I barely remembered — I just knew the chorus).
We had a music teacher in elementary school who played this song for us each year (this was in the early 80s).
I remember this song and another sort of like it, that went something like “Have you seen the ghost of John?”
Does anyone else remember that one?
Thanks so much for posting this. It really brought back a wonderful childhood memory.
Can you tell me the name of the people who do this? And can I still buy this somewhere?Thank you…ss
As far as I know, Steve, it is no longer available. But you can find it here at this site:
http://scarstuff.blogspot.com/2006/03/wade-denning-kay-lande-halloween-games.html
You can download it directly to your computer which is what I did. It downloads as a Winrar zip file which will unzip after downloading into ten (10) separate mp3 files.
Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for stopping by.
Merry Christmas!
This is amazing! I haven’t heard this since Kindergarden. I’ve looked for it for years. My music teacher taught us to play this song and died recently.
Thanks so much! It makes me miss her more, she was a great teacher.
Btw, I’m only 18, so the song still survives, I guess.
Yeah, i’ve been looking for this song for so long. I too was taught it in elementary school. We had a movie clip though, of skeletons dancing in a graveyard to this song. Every year at halloween i sing this and humm it, such a memorable song
I had been looking for this song for years and years….and have introduced it to my kids. In 1979/1980 (I was 8/9) we used to listen to it in music class at Halloween time, and our teacher also played a film of dancing skeletons (maybe Disney’s Silly Symphony). Maybe Kaitlin and I were in the same class….
omg!
i cant believe this, i knew the chorus, but couldnt think of the words, i havent heard it in about 20 years and the second the music started , all the words ( or most ) came right back ro me. even gave me goose bumps. thank you so much~~
Glad you enjoyed it!
Does anyone know the name of the cartoons of the dancing skeletons that used to go with this song? We used to see it in elementary school. But I can’t find it because I have no idea what its called. I really want to show it to my Nephews.
I can’t believe it! I entered the first lyrics of this song on Google and never thought I would be able to find it. We listened to this in music class in elementary school. I always liked the song, and as an adult remembered almost all of the words. Being a musician myself, it’s really special for me to have found this. It brings back so many wonderful memories for me.
Thanks so much for posting!
I can’t thank you enough for posting! I was taught this song in first grade, which was in 2002, and I had no idea this song was so old! Every halloween I thought of this song but I never looked for it. Today I decided to look and I found it! My techer picked a couple students to hold the letters and have back to audience so when they sang the letter you would turn around. I was double L.
Uhhh…this is the song I was looking for…forever…since Elementary. However, I guess I was in a ‘new gen’ and we had a remake of the song with strings and not children voices. It had a video with skeletons having fun on Halloween night then they all floated through the sky in a circle into this black hole then they had to go back to their graves. Maybe my memory has distorted it…but I don’t think so…
Thank you. I remember this from kindergarten. What an awesome song. The chorus never leaves you.
Merri –
I too am ridiculously grateful that you posted this song!!! I listened to it in kindergarten too (I’m noticing a theme)… and have been looking for it forever. You are fabulous! Thank you, thank you thank you!
You’re quite welcome, Mimi! I’m glad you found it here and that it brought back such good memories. Thanks for stopping by!

Merri,
This is my favorite album! I used to listen to this album all year long when I was a child. My sister still has the album but it has seen better days. It is pretty scratched and we are unable to play it now. I have been searching the internet for years trying to find a replacement record or get a copy of it on CD. Is this your record? I would love to have the album to play at my son’s Halloween party this year. Do you know where I can get a copy? Please let me know.
Do you know where i can buy this song? Im a music teacher and would like to teach it to my kids. its such a cute song.
Thanks for posting this. i remember this from when i was in kindergarden, and whenever its that time of year where it starts to be a chill in the air and the leaves start to change…. i think about this song.
and that chorus never leaves your head. i never for forgot how to spell halloween again!
the music, melody or whatever you call it is from a classical piece called danse macabre.
Thank you again.. also i was wondering if there was a way to download the song. thanks!
That just made my day! Thank you. I’ve been wondering where that song got to.

HaHa! I found this song here last year and my pc crashed and I’m so thankful I found it again!!!! I even passed this song down to my kids.
THANK YOU MRS. PINEIRO FOR TEACHING ME THIS SONG 25 YEARS AGO!!!! I SING IT EVERY YEAR OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND SO DO MY KIDS.
AND THANKYOU MERRI FOR POSTING AND KEEPING THAT FEELING ALIVE!!!!
You’re quite welcome, Joy! I understand *all* too well your pain regarding a pc crash. My external hard drive did the same thing last May, and, if it weren’t for my iPod and this blog, I would have lost a *LOT* more than I did!
Glad you stopped by. Have a *wonderful* time with your kids!
No one believed me that this song existed….thank you for providing my proof of sanity…..LOL -
It’s amazing that a few sounds can evoke such familiarity over the space of nearly thirty years. My nursery school had this record, and I used to listen to over and over…
I googled “h a double-l o” and here it is.
Where can I buy this song? And where can I find the lyrics written out?
Oh my god!! Thank you so much for posting this. I am 38 years old and this was my very first album I ever bought when I was 6 years old. Do yuo know if it is on CD anywhere? It brings back A LOT of good memories.

I have not herd this song in over 30 years. I still sing the chorus in my head in order to spell HALLOWEEN.
How sad is that?
Yes, thank you for posting this. I remember singing to this record when I was in Elementary school each year. I never thought I would hear it again, and I am so happy you posted this – it brings back a great memories.

Oh My GOSH!!!! This is INCREDIBLE!! Thank you for bringing back a 1st grade song … for me to pass on to my elementary kids!!
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS SONG. WITH HALLOWEEN COMING UP SOON IT MADE ME NOSTALGIC FOR THIS ALBUM FROM MY CHILDHOOD in the 70′s. THIS IS HOW I LEARNED TO SPELL HALLOWEEN!!!
Thank you for a wonderful trip down memory lane. The only way I can spell Halloween is by singing the chorus to this song. My nieces and nephews have asked me to sing the rest of the song but I could never remember it. Thank you for posting this; now we can all learn the song and sing together. Thank you.
I love this song
Oh my GOD. You can’t imagine how happy I am to FINALLY find this. My music teacher back in the 2nd Grade used to play this all the time and I used to LOVE IT. I transferred to a different school in the 3rd grade and never found out the name of it. Throughout all my years, the song has always been stuck in my head, and I finally attempted a Google search for it. I am 26 years old now. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
In case anyone missed it, Golden Records released the Kay Lande and Wade Denning “Halloween” song as part of a promo on their website last October:
https://www.facebook.com/LittleGoldenRecords?sk=app_178091127385
It’s my understanding that it will be available again come this October 2012 — possibly along with other selections from the complete album.
They also promoted a very cool stop-motion video for the song artfully created by Halloween vinyl blogger Jason Willis:
Still bugging me that I missed a free download of the song without all the pops and clicks of the vinyl release that has made its rounds on the net. This was n album played at my kindergarten play in 1976 — which I too had long sought out for my own kids.
Just an update for those of you who are still looking for this song – megaupload and the other site has been taken down, but you can now buy it on iTunes! The title is “Halloween Macabre” and it’s on the albumn “golden records, the magic continues.”
I am 40 years old and my kindergarten teacher played this for us. My kids are laughing at the fact that I am singing this to them. Thanks for sharing this song.
I don’t remember this one, thought it is cute. We had a 45 (Record) wiith 2 treats on each side. One was the classic spoken tale “Deep Dark Woods” and the other, “Have you seen the ghost of john?” Was thinking about it this week and found you-all. The second title is mostly classical-opera-like frilly renditions on the interweb, but the album was more down to earth and spooky. Couldn’t find it. : ( But glad I saw this. ThanX!
