Being married to a brass player now for almost 32 years, I’ve learned a great deal over the years about the brass instrument family and accomplished brass instrumentalists. Just this past August, the fabulous jazz trumpeter, Maynard Ferguson, passed away, leaving behind a legacy not only of magnificent music, but also a number of mentored instrumentalists that he took under his wing.
Just yesterday, David shared with me a lovely, moving version of “Taps” arranged by one of these individuals, Walter White, and dedicated to the memory of Maynard Ferguson. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Listen to Taps for Maynard.
Then come back and view this home video of Maynard with his beloved cat, Dezi. Dezi died on August 19th of this year. Maynard played “Taps” for Dezi’s backyard funeral – the last notes he ever played as he passed away only four days later.
