Themes for our Village classes – ages 0 to 18 months:
Hickory, Dickory, Tickle and Bounce
Research shows the more you expose your baby to nursery rhymes and songs, the stronger those emerging language-learning skills will be. That’s why these Mother Goose-like stories and rhymes are the main theme of this Kindermusik session. With a home CD of recordings from class and weekly developmental information in your home journal, you’ll develop research-proven communication strategies with your child through listening activities, speaking “parentese,” and sign language. Hickory, Dickory, Tickle and Bounce encourages Baby’s language development through the rhythmic nature of favorite childhood nursery rhymes. Favorite songs and activities include “Peek-a-boo,” “Duke of York,” “Roll that Ball,” and “Baa, Baa, Black Sheep.”
This session will help you bring more rhythm and routine to your baby’s day, as well as help her develop lasting learning skills. We’ll show you how and tell you why music can help your little one soothe herself and helps to build a strong network for learning in her body and mind. With weekly developmental information in your home materials and a CD of music from class, you can bring home those same stress-free play and relaxation techniques from class, and incorporate them into your daily routines. The Rhythm of My Day offers an introduction to American Sign Language and is highlighted by the concept of a family’s daily rituals and routines. Songs and activities are designed to help Baby and Parent incorporate music into many of their regular routines. Favorite activities include “Mulberry Bush,” “Giddy Up Horsey,” and “Jingle Go the Baby Bells.”
Home materials in each kit: Baby’s Literature Book, 2 art banners, Home CD, Home Journal, and a carry/storage bag.
Village Classes are on Thursdays at 4:45 PM, and Saturdays at 10:45AM.
For Our Time classes – ages 18 months to 3 years:
We’ll meet many animal characters this semester in our books, activities, and songs – each specifically chosen for a toddler’s emerging interests and physical skills. With silly, bumpy lap bounces, we’ll help your child develop rhythm while further developing his ever-emerging language skills. With a special stringed-emphasis in the music from class, you can bring home the violin, cello and orchestra sounds to help your toddler stay a happy and engaged learner at home, too. Fiddle Dee Dee takes its name from the folk song about the fly who married the bumblebee. Creatures from the animal kingdom, whether furry, web-footed, winged or whiskered will be explored. In the context of moving like animals, we will focus on concepts such as high, low, smooth, bumpy, fast and slow. The featured instrument is the Fiddle Sticks, a one-of-a-kind Kindermusik instrument that can be rattled, rolled, tapped, and fiddled with to create fun sounds and play possibilities.
Our Time classes are on Thursdays at 5:45 PM, and Saturdays at 9:45 AM.
For Imagine That! classes – ages 3.5 to 5 years:
Cities! Busy Places ~ Friendly Faces
In this unit, sidewalks, elevators, skyscrapers, and world-travelling photographers are the theme in this unique preschool Kindermusik program. Learning through the pretend play that your preschooler adores, we’ll be rhythmically busy playing storytelling games and hand-crafting city “buildings” from waxpaper at home, so we can make a cityscape in class! Plus every activity has some at-home adaptations so you can take part in the learning. With a pair of resonator bars as a featured instrument and a multi-cultural, jazzy collection of music, your preschooler will develop the social and intellectual skills he’ll need in school. “People on the go, rushing everywhere – in the city!” Meet the busy places and friendly faces of a city, where we will co-create a city that is familiar, yet like no other. The children will learn to imagine themselves being a broom man, an opera singer, a photographer, a dog catcher, and more!
Home materials include: Imagine That! backpack, two (2) literature books, two (2) CDs, a pretend play set, a Family Activity Book, and Resonator Bars.
The Imagine That! class meets on Saturdays at 11:45 AM.
For Family Time Classes – ages 0 to 7:
Here, There, and Everywhere!
In this family-sized version of Kindermusik, the music and activities center around five different family outings: a visit with a friend, an outing at the park, a trip to the city, an afternoon at the aquarium, and a day on the farm.
Your At Home Materials include a hand and finger puppets of “Wags” – featured characters in the two literature books. Plus, two (2) home CDs of music from class, a home activity guide, and two jamborine instruments. Each item has been carefully created to bring out the music – and the learning – in your family. Specially designed to fit the varying ages and learning abilities of your children, this set will help you bring the learning and the music-making home, as well as become a lasting, well-loved favorite of the toy box and book shelf.
Family Time class meets on Thursday afternoons at 3:45 PM.
